Welcome to the Young Visions Project
Young Visions developed from Pembroke House's former Higher Education Project. The project's director is Wayne Marshall. Young Visions' aim is:
To create opportunities for young people in Southwark to explore and think through their own futures, and the way Further and Higher Education could provide a foundation to their professional aspirations.
How does the project work?
Young Visions functions in a very different way to young people's usual educational experience. It offers innovative Workshops which allow young people the reflective space to explore who they really want to be through creating their own dialogue with Professionals and Undergraduates. This then enables them to make meaningful decisions about their future education, and own those decisions for themselves.
In the Workshops there is no teaching or direct guidance by the adults involved. In a series of explorations young people will have with their Facilitator, the young people will decide, where possible, which Professionals they want to meet, what questions they want to ask them, and then lead the journey for themselves.
The Professional is there to offer themselves and their lived experience for discussion. After the dialogue a Facilitator works with the young people about how the dialogue made them think and feel about their own visions for themselves, and what actions they themselves now want to take.
In these kinds of Workshops the process is as important as the content - this offers young people a unique, safe, and exciting opportunity to freely explore their own fears and aspirations.
In addition to the regular workshops we run workplace visits for young people, which have included to Slaughter and May, Shell and Bloomberg. Visits to universities and colleges, notably to Pembroke College, Cambridge are also an important part of the Young Visions experience, and we work closely with the College in delivering this project.
